It's a faux, faux, faux world...

In the 1960's I had the good luck to own a couple of brand new Mustangs...this included a Cobra Mustang...the Carroll Shelby one...back in '69 I believe it cost $6,000.00. Today a real one from that era can run up to 300-500k.
I guess that is why Ebay is filled to the brim with TRIBUTE models...don't know what a tribute model is??? it is a fucking FAKE!!!!! They are also called "replicas" or "clones"...but the most appropriate words ought to be:
FAKE....FRAUD...PHONY...FORGERY...

People take the basic Mustang model from the period (1965-approximately 1971) and dress them up to look the real Cobra...bigger engines, beefier everything really...and the classic paint job that the Shelbys were known for having...I don't expect too many people are fooled, altho there may be some who are stupid to the degree that they don't check with the Shelby Registry to ascertain which cars are actually Shelby's...hell, even a simple vin number check will tell you what you want to know...

I see this as going deeper...this goes in to the deep workings of the American mind...the basics of having it all (or at least a lot of shiny stuff), or driving a Volkswagen Jetta...The Tributes/Clones/Replicas allow the owner/driver to pretend he (I am betting it is 99% male), is a big dog running in the tall grass...folks seeing him drive by don't generally realize that his car is all paint and glasspacks and not a real Shelby. When teenage boys out in Daddy's Chrysler stop next to him at a redlight, he gets to Vogue for them, and profile as if he is something much, much more than he is...all for having spent a few thousand bucks making an old Mustang look like it's richer, tartier, faster and much more expensive sister...
Personally, I find this all rather sad...
